Private by design. This tool runs entirely in your browser β€” nothing you enter or add is uploaded to any server.

How it works

  1. Paste the exact text, including spaces and line breaks.
  2. Press Generate SHA-256. The browser hashes the UTF-8 bytes with SubtleCrypto.
  3. Copy the 64-character lowercase hex digest. The same text always produces the same digest.

Examples

  • The word toolnova has a stable SHA-256 hex digest you can recompute any time.
  • Adding a trailing space changes the digest because the bytes change.
  • An empty box hashes the empty string, which is a known SHA-256 value.

Frequently asked questions

Is SHA-256 encryption?

No. It is a one-way hash. You cannot recover the original text from the digest.

Does this hash files?

It hashes the text you paste, encoded as UTF-8. For a file checksum, paste the file contents only if they are text.

Will the result match other tools?

Yes, when those tools hash the same UTF-8 bytes. Watch for hidden newlines added by editors.
