Frequently asked questions
What do the digits mean?
Each class sums read=4, write=2 and execute=1. 7 is rwx, 6 is rw-, 5 is r-x and 4 is r--.
Does this change files on a server?
No. It only prints the command. Run chmod yourself on the machine that owns the file.
Are setuid and sticky bits included?
No. This calculator covers the standard three-digit owner, group and other mode.
